2019 Lifeguarding Classes
Are you interested in becoming a lifeguard or do you need to re-certify so your license remains valid? If so, please check out the classes we are offering this Spring!
The first step is to register and pass the pre-test. This is a requirement for all candidates seeking certification and for those re-certifying. A “pass” on a pre-test is good for up to 3-months. If the time between the pre-test and the class is greater than 3 months, candidates must re-take the pre-test.
After passing the pre-test, you may register for any of our lifeguarding classes, which are described below. The maximum number of participants in a class is 10 so our classes typically fill up quickly so we encourage you to register early! You can register online or at the Front Desk.
For more information, contact Aquatics Director, Eva Schellenbach, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 540-318-6332.
To be eligible to take the Lifeguard Certification and Recertification courses, all students must: swim 300 yards using any combination of freestyle and breaststroke using rhythmic breathing and good technique. Students must also swim 20 yards, surface dive and retrieve a 10lb brick and carry it while kicking on his/her back to the starting point within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Participants must also tread water for 2 minutes using only their legs.
