We’re Open: What Phase 2 Looks Like for Us

Rouse Center Members,

Yesterday, Governor Northam announced that Phase 2 will begin this Friday and will include indoor fitness, with restrictions. We are excited to announce that we will be reopening on Monday, June 8, at 9AM. Before you come to the center, we want you to be aware of the following items. Please note: This is not an exhaustive list of policies but contains the main points that will affect members.


Phase 2 Facility Hours:

  • Monday – Friday: 5AM – 9PM, Pools Close at 8:45PM
  • Saturday: 7AM – 7PM, Pools Close at 6:45PM
  • Sunday: 8AM – 6PM, Pools Close at 5:45PM



Per the Governor’s mandate, masks will be required to enter the building. The exceptions to the mandate are: 1) If you are eating/drinking 2) If you are exercising 3) If you have trouble breathing or unable to remove the face covering without help 4) If you need to communicate with those who are hard of hearing 5) If you have a health condition stopping you from wearing a face covering. We will have signage posted at the entrance. The order states residents do not need to prove their medical condition or explain what it is per privacy laws, so we will not ask you to put a mask on. All employees will wear masks.


Cleaning and Sanitation Procedures

We have put in more sanitation stations around the facility. We will have attendants who will be disinfecting equipment and high touch areas. We ask that you please wash your hands before and after exercising as well as disinfect any equipment you use before and after use to help us prevent the spread. We also have hand sanitizer in multiple locations around the center as well as touch-free hand soap dispensers in all locker rooms and bathrooms.



We will pre-screen all employees. Members should self-screen before coming into the facility. If you feel sick or have a fever greater than 100.4 or show any symptoms of COVID-19, do not visit the center.


Positive Case

If it is determined that a member of the facility has tested positive for COVID-19 and has recently visited the center, we will close the facility for at least 24 hours to deep clean.


Updated Membership Waiver

On your first visit to the center, please plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of time as you will need to sign the new membership waiver at Front Desk as well as allow us to confirm some membership information. After your first visit, you will be able to check-in as normal. A link to the waiver will be on the website shortly so you are able to read it ahead of time.

The Café seating area will be marked off and the Café will be available for smoothies, snacks, and grab and go items. The kitchen will remain closed.



Due to the capacity limitations, the JCLUB will remain closed until further notice.


Fitness Center

30% capacity will be allowed on the Fitness floor. We have marked off equipment to provide 10 feet of separation as stated in the guideline. We have moved equipment into the basketball court to create an additional fitness area for members. We have also moved the cycles into the Group Exercise Studio for member use when a class is not in session. We will not require people to sign up for time slots as we believe there is enough space to accommodate everyone. If capacity becomes a problem, we will require prior registrations for time slots.


Group Exercise

Group Exercise classes will be held outside, if possible. If they are not able to be held outside, they will be held in the back half of the basketball court. The cycle studio will be moved to the Group Exercise studio to provide more spacing. The cycles will be available to members when classes are not in session. You must register online or call the front desk to register for Group Classes to reserve a spot. Classes will open on Sunday for the following week. We will also continue uploading digital workouts to our website.


Basketball Court

The basketball court will be split into two halves. The front half will have exercise equipment and will be used as an extension of the fitness center. The back half of the court will be used for Group Exercise if the class can not be held outside. It will also be available as extra space for exercise or shoot around if no classes are being held. Per the guidelines, no basketball games will be allowed and members must bring their own ball. The basketball court will operate at 30% capacity.


Wellness Pool

The Wellness Pool will remain closed until further notice.


Competition and Recreation Pool

The Competition and Recreation pools will be open to lap swimming and water aerobics classes. Lap swimming can have up to 3 people per lane. Per the guidelines, the splash pad in the recreation pool will remain closed and there will be no open swim. Diving boards will remain closed.



Just because we are allowed to open, we understand not everyone is ready to come back. The mass freeze will remain on everyone’s account. If you want to come back to the center and work out, we will start your membership up again taking into account our closure on March 17th. Example – For the members that are billed on the first of the month. If you paid your membership fee on March 1st, you were not allowed to use the facility for the final 14 days of the month due to the mandated closure.  You will have 14 days of facility use from the first day you come back to the center before you will be charged membership dues. Due to capacity limitations, we will not allow member guest passes or day-passes to be purchased.


We understand there is still fear as there is still much that is unknown about this virus. As this situation changes frequently, we will adjust our policies as needed. If you are in a high-risk group or are uncomfortable about coming back in, you do not have to come back yet. We will not charge you if you do not come back yet. We are opening for those of you that wish to work out and are comfortable doing so. We will do everything in our power to keep the environment as safe as possible.
